I was inspired to write a few manifesto-like pieces about tech, press, capital and entrepreneurship over the weekend. The inspiration came from shipping a fairly important feature for Fargo to the usual ignore-ance of the tech press. Meanwhile there seems to be a feeling that they have completely covered tech and need to branch out into other areas. My belief is that real tech is mostly not covered at all. If you have a new product, it's pretty hard to get the message out to users. I suspect that today's reporters hope to be hired by the VC startups, that's why they're drawn to covering their startups. And the ones who aren't are just following the herd. Or that's the way it's always been. I don't really know why. But maybe it's the same reason people with ideas seek validation by VCs. A big circle of self-fulfilling-prophecy. Regardless, it's a system driven by a bubble. We're not going to be left with much when it pops, as always.
