Teamwork isn't arithmetic

In the middle of a heavy news season, a bit of trivial NBA musing.

This is actually the most interesting part of the basketball season. Esp this year. One move, Kevin Durant going to Golden State set a bunch of other people and teams in motion.

I would have preferred to see Durant go to a Big City team with an empty roster, and lots of draft picks to use and trade. Build the ideal team around KD, instead of trying to shoe-horn such a big talent and ego into an already-formed team.

Imagine if KD had gone to Boston. Nothing but room for a guy like KD to take charge. Instead he went to a team overflowing with talent. Is there room for a giant like KD on such a team? I have serious doubts!

In tech, could a company have two Steve Jobs? So how do you put Steph Curry and KD on the same team? Who's the boss?

The actual season where teams play three or four games a week isn't nearly as interesting as the summer free agency season, and certainly won't be next year, the year after the Warriors set the record for most wins and didn't win the championship.

Teams are built for making a deep run into the playoffs. A lot of great teams get knocked out in the second or third round. No shame in that. For most teams that is, but not the Warriors.

Does Golden State need more talent? They already have so much. Curry, Thompson, Green, Iguodala, Livingston, Steve Kerr. I think perhaps their challenge was the hunger of Steph Curry. Wipe that smile off your face. Winning is hard. For everyone. Even you!

Adding Kevin Durant and his expectations might not go well. He's a take-charge guy somewhat like LeBron James. It could be a mess.

Strength in Numbers says if it isn't going well, get more strength.

That talent + talent = more talent.

They might switch to this meme: Winning is Hard.

Cleveland's power came from one and only one very highly motivated person taking charge. And I think that's why they won. GS already has plenty of talent. I think they're at a different level, it's more a matter of what they do with all the talent.

The Warriors need to find their center. Would have been smarter imho to leave the squad as-is, and spend the next season re-learning what it means (for them) to win.

I think KD + GSW will be troubling, not fun.

Because winning isn't arithmetic.
