Josh Marshall and others say we may be looping back to 1968.
Maybe so!
One of the popular ideas among anti-war protestors in the 60s and 70s was to bring the war home.
Life in the US was too normal as we were inflicting huge chaos in Southeast Asia based largely on a misunderstanding.
Well in the last decade we turned the Middle East into a war zone, based on more than a misunderstanding.
Our propaganda says that Iran is the thing we have to worry about, and before that Saddam Hussein. But objectively you'd have to say it's the US and our allies have caused most of the dying and destruction.
And the war may be coming home now. The sniper in Dallas was trained in the Army Reserve and fought in Afghanistan. He simply did in the US what we've been doing there.
How many cops are veterans? I bet a lot of them.
It's perfectly naive to think that we could cause such chaos in Iraq and have it not come back to the US.
It seems to me that's what happened.
