Ten years using Twitter
by Dave Winer Thursday, September 22, 2016

Hey I just noticed that on August 5, I had been on Twitter for ten years.

I signed up at the same time as Jason Calacanis.

Ross Mayfield told us how great it was.

I think we were all at Henrietta's Table in Cambridge. Not sure why we were all there in August 2006, but it might have been the Wikipedia conference that was being held at Harvard Law School.

I remember thinking Twitter was weird.

Evan Williams was probably the first person I followed. I remember him saying he was waiting in line at the bank. I also remember wondering why I wanted to know that. I guess that part I still haven't figured out. ;-)

I put it aside for a while, didn't plan on using it, I don't remember what got me to look again. I think maybe it was when I learned about the API.

I still wonder if I could have gotten a shorter name. It was early. I was user number 3839. I bet dave was already gone, but I could probably have been davew. That's my handle on Instagram, though I almost never use it.

Ten years comes and goes like the blink of an eye.

I wonder what Twitter will look like ten years from now?
