FAQs

.head 0 + FAQ .head 1 + Dropping to the right doesn't expand .head 2 - Q: When I drag a red diamond item into a black triangle head, it reveals everything else under that head. I'd like to turn that off. (I have a small screen and I don't like to have things open if I can help it...) Is there any way to do this? .head 2 - A: Yes, hold down the option key while you let up on the mouse button. .head 1 + What to do with AutoWeb files? .head 2 - Q: Is there an easy way to convert the hierarchy of folders to the outline. I did get verbs.apps.clay.utilitie s.BuildFolderOutline and ConvertAutowebText to work but then I still have to cut and paste the text in to new text files don't I, or is this something I can script, have you already done this? .head 2 - A: Leave them right where they are. Clay will find them. That's how I did it with all my AutoWeb websites. [Note: AutoWeb is no longer supported -- Clay Basket replaces it, but as was pointed out, there are scripts included in the clay.utilities table that will convert an AutoWeb website to a Clay Basket website.] .head 1 + Aligning icons .head 2 - Q: Can text be aligned to the middle of the icons, rather than the top? It looks goofy with bigger icons. (In which case, I guess they're really graphics, and not icons, right?) .head 2 - A: It's time for you to start mucking with the templates. That's where this stuff is controlled. It's all open and fairly obvious. .head 1 + Logic in the choice of templates .head 2 - Q: Any way to use a different template based on whether or not the page has sub-pages? It looks silly to have a "Subpages" heading without any, but it's also a bit painful to set each one manually, and makes the basket much less automated than it otherwise would be. .head 2 - A: Not at this time. Let's consider that a feature request. .head 1 + A mailing list? .head 2 - Q: Is there a mailing list for Clay Basket yet, so I can bug some other people with questions like this? ;-) .head 2 - A: Coming soon. The good folks at webedge.com are going to set one up. Watch the main yabbadabba page for news. .head 1 + No calendar info? .head 2 - Q: Is there any way to make the divelinks command not list things by month? Or, alternatively, a different command that can be substituted into the template? .head 2 - A: Yes. Check out the Page Info window. Turn off the Calendar Info option. .head 1 + Meta commands used in templates .head 2 - Q: Is there a comprehensive list of the commands that can be used in templates? .head 2 - A: Yes, here it is: title, colorinfo, prevurl, nexturl, homeurl, author, icon, bodytext, divelinks, surfacelinks, mousetype, date. .head 1 + Inheritance thru the outline structure .head 2 - Q: Any way to make link/background colors pass down through the heirarchy of the outline? If I want to change the link/background colors throughout the site, it seems that each page must be done individually -- not what I'd expect from a cool outline processor! .head 2 - A: Can I tell you how much bitching we heard at Living Videotext about Rules in MORE? Ohhhh. Yes, we will someday have rules in Clay. For now, you can set the options for more than one page at a time, just select all the pages you want to deal with, do a cmd-I, and when you're ready to go, click on Update. A dialog will pop up confirming that you want to do this. Then it will change the info record for each of the selected headlines. Be careful -- you can do a lot of damage with this one. Also any text field that's blank will not be changed, so you can keep the dates intact by just emptying out the text in the date field before clicking on Update.
