To me, :-) is punctuation. Like all punctuation, it has a use, but should only be used sparingly. Like the exclamation point, it indicates a tone of voice.
Its meaning: The preceding is not ment to offend.
Or, as you would say: Let's have fun! :-)
BTW, I *liked* your Arrogance of the Mac DaveNet. It caused me to re-examine some of my attitudes towards the PC world.
