Microsoft may be sending out mixed messages about the Mac, but for the most part, the only thing I see coming from the top that is pro-mac is out of self-preservation, not out of respect for the Mac as a platform in and of itself. I daresay that if there weren't a sword of Damocles hanging over them in the form of ongoing threats of anti-trust suits.

If Microsoft had 40% of computer market share rather than 80%, I'm sure they'd be singing a different tune, and, yes, the Mac would be less exciting for it.

Personally, I'd prefer it if Steve Jobs' reality distortion field were still in effect and more people developed for the Mac because Mac technology stood on its own, rather than being an also-ran to Win32.
