To imply that Steve Jobs (or anyone else with that much money) must have a financial stake to assure their commitment to a venture is ludicrous. He didn't say "The Journey Is The Reward" at the beginning of his journey. Maybe now the journey _is_ the reward.
One of the laws of marketing is that "It's always a two-horse race." The two OS-race was Windows and Macintosh. Nothing else mattered, at least in the business/consumer/education market. And it didn't matter how strong the also-rans were, they had little or no chance.
Now Next joins with Apple in the business/consumer/education market battle. Be wary.
