Let's Have Fun -- Now! RE: APPLE PRESS CONFERENCE

My comments:

1. sounds to me as if Apple is kissing off the consumer/creative markets in their Moby dick like quest for corporate mkt accpetance and respectability. there is no ways Mach is a consumer OS, and even if they manage to bury it there will alsways be some situation where you gotta trot out the vi editor to sort things out. I've had a Next workstation for several years, and it is possible to get the puppy to boot into a line editor and force you to know unix to get back to square one.

2. Also sounds like there's going to be a bake off between cool next technology, like display postscript, and the NIH apple stuff, like Quickdraw GX, Opendoc, etc. Let's hope they make the right chocies - pro display postscript, pro quicktime, etc.

3. given the financial deal Next is costing apple next to nothing. so it makes it a no brainer - unless you believe Be wouldn've been a better choice.

4. sure doesn't sound as if stevie has much incentive to go to the mattress for apple. and indeed, it was interesting he was barely mentioned in the press conference. He clearly isn't going to be given the keys to get into the building after hours, without an escort.
