Dave, that wasn't an "Amusing Rant:, it was a depressing rant.

With all the outsourcing going on at companies, why is Apple doing the developers' role. They have to decide if they are a hardware company (an even that can be broken down into a R & D shop with subsequent licensing ala Power, or doing the whole machine), a systems company, a developer, or a publisher.

How does their "not invented here syndrome" practice reconcile with your talks with Amelio ?

Is Apple beconing government ? > PPS: I hear the complaints from Apple's execs: Where is it safe for us > to work? The above sounds like classic old-style government.

Exactly. And we like to use or own suite of applications. The preferred platform is Apple, but the only Apple product I really use is FileMaker, but I started using that when it was from Nashoba. There is an example for you ! Name one package that Apple developed that is still a leader today ?

The Internet / Scripting stuff will be no exception.

MacDraw for example has been outstripped by countless programs. MAcWrite. Huh ? It's been so long I can't even think of any more.

3rd party is the way to go, and will be cheaper in the long run because you can pick the winners, and tap the whole world.
