How little we need intermediation anymore. Glad to see you're running DaveNet on your own. No more wading through putrid Wired color schemes to get to it. (Amazing how much more readable their White Cover issues in print are!).
Partially disagree with you about DEC. I loved the PDP-11 too (had the ill-stared PC-350 late blooming instance with a v.7 Unix flavor called Venix). But I don't know about whether they've left the road to Wangdom yet. In December when I was shopping for a server, I looked at their Alpha line--back to the 70s! You practically need an EE to order the damn thing. Endlists lists of cryptic options. They're still not over the "We're engineers selling to other engineers" culture.
