Apple is NOT hosing Internet Config. I wasn't able to see the demo in person but even over the realaudio broadcast it was clear that the "Apple Internet Assistant" is in fact a front-end to Internet Config. The presenter waited until the end to reveal that all the information was being mapped into IC. Until that point I felt that the same as you.

I hope this at least helps confirm any other response you may have recieved.
