Great Message from Amelio. It makes me want to tell him something:

Dear Gil:

I don't know you and I don't think I know Apple any more. The Apple I came to help and learned to love doesn't really exist anymore.

I wish the reason was that like any beloved child it has simply grown up into an adult and gone on to make its place in the world.

Somehow, it hasn't worked out that way. All the vision and passion is gone. What remains is a desire to succeed in commercial terms without a raison d'etre for the market to give you a place for that success.

Just today, I received a long email from a new development company that is using OpenDoc to create some terrific web-based development concepts (Digital Harbor WAV) that will initially be on Mac, but they have already announced that they'll go to the other platforms. I'd bet that if they can succeed at all (and the success of OpenDoc is highly problematical because Apple has failed it so badly) that success will come in spite of Apple and not because of it.

When I see Apple make its peace with the development community and provide it with the support and help it needs to create great products on a strong platform , then I will change my mind, but for now I think of Apple not as the future, but as history.

Sincerely,

Amy Wohl

Go ahead, Dave. Post it. I think I'm going to cry! Amy
