UserLand's Frontier-Central List

This is the central mailing list for the Frontier scripting world. Subscribers include the leading script writers and web developers in the Frontier community and many software developers who make scriptable applications.

A change -- Sun, May 25, 1997 at 9:52:40 AM

We made a mistake in starting this list -- we started with the subscriber list for the Frontier-talk list. Some people were only subscribed to the digest version of the list, and they were (rightly) upset to be receiving the full feed, all the messages as they were sent. We want to encourage people to receive the digest version of the list, it's more efficient for us on the server end of the pipe too.

So we reset the subscriber list after posting a message to the list saying this would happen. Everyone has to resubscribe now. Sorry for the mixup, and sorry for the extra work, but it's the only way to move forward.

Read this page first

Please read everything on this page before subscribing to the list. It's important to use the web for what it's good for, and rely on the list only for questions and comments that need to be seen by everyone on the list.

All the info you need should be here, but if it's not, send a private message to the list manager, listmaster@scripting.com, and he'll answer your question and add something to this web page.

List culture

This is a cross-platform list. We discuss issues related to Windows and Macintosh script development. Please be respectful of other people's platform choices.

This is not a place to debate, it's a problem solving list. Sometimes people need advice and help, that's cool, of course.

This is also an international list. For many, English is not their native language, yet that's the language we speak on this list.

Above all, the Frontier-central list is a place of respect. Everyone who subscribes to this list is a real human being with a right to their opinion. No one is wrong, ever.

At all times give people the benefit of the doubt.

Think before posting to the list. It's a very powerful thing to be able to send a message to all these people, but few things are more irritating to open a message, scan thru several screens of citations, to find the only new idea is "I agree" or "thanks". You use up a lot of people's time with such messages, and delay the delivery of more content-rich messages.

Further, even if you have something to say, it may not be necessary to say it to the whole list. A personal message is appreciated if that's what's called for.

If you break one of these rules it is not OK to send a message to the list apologizing. Just move on, assume people forgive you.

Thanks

We appreciate the help provided by Dick Munroe in operating the Frontier-talk and Frontier-beginners lists, but there have been outages on those lists, so we prepared by setting up this list.

As of 5/25/97, these lists appear to be off the air, so we are starting up the Frontier-central list to reconnect with members of the Frontier-talk list.

FAQ

What software are you running? ListSTAR, Filemaker and Frontier.
