Working with outlines and the Outliner menu.
 | Every line of an outline can be no longer than 255 characters. |
 | On a Mac use the command key when you read control. |
 | On the Macintosh, the Return and Enter keys perform two different functions. PCs don't have a Return key. |
 | The Return key referrs to the key marked Enter that's immediately to the right of the quotes key. |
 | The Enter key refers to the keypad Enter key, to the right of the keypad number 3 key. |
 | Return key creates a new line. |
 | The parent is any line with sub-items or children indented to the right below it. |
 | A parent can also be a child. |
 | A child is an indented line and may also have children of its own. |
 | A bundle is a group of lines at the same level in the outline hierarchy. |
 | The current line is either highlighted or contains the cursor. |
 | Expand: will expand the child lines one level of indent below the selected parent. |
 | Expand All Subheads: will fully expand all levels of child lines of a selected parent. |
 | Expand Everything: will fully expand all lines. |
 | Collapse: will collapse all the child lines of a selected parent. |
 | Collapse Everything: collapses all lines to the top level parent lines of the outline hierarchy. |
 | Collapse To Parent: will collapse all child lines to the selected parent. |
 | Toggle Comment: will toggle a line between being a commented or non-commented line, indicated by the chevron character. |
 | Move Up, Move Down, Move Left, Move Right: will move selected line. |
 | Make First: will move the current line to top of its bundle. |
 | Make Last: will move current line to bottom of its bundle. |
 | Promote: the bundle of lines below to the current line will be moved one indent to the right. |
 | Demote: all lines within a bundle and below current line will move one indent to the right. |
 | Sort: all lines within the current bundle will be sorted alphabetically. |
 | Delete All Sub-Heads: all sub-items to the current line will be deleted. Warning: this can't be undone. |
 | A black triangle means the item possesses collapsed (hidden) sub-items. |
 | A grey triangle means the item either has no sub-items or is expanded already. |
 | Command-A selects all of the lines in the current bundle. |
 | Shift-double-click on a triangle will select all of the lines in the current bundle. |
| Section and Content modes |
 | In selection mode, all of a line is highlighted. |
 | In content mode, the line is NOT hightlighted and is ready for editing. |
 | The Enter key toggles between selection and content mode. |
 | At any point typing will toggle a selected line to content mode. |
 | Delete a selected line (and its sub-items) with the Delete key. |
 | Double-clicking to the right or left (or on the triangle) of a headline will toggle between collapse and expand. |
 | Command-comma on a selected headline will toggle between collapse and expand. |
 | Keypad - and + will collapse or expand headlines. |
 | Up-arrow and down-arrow move up and down within a bundle. |
 | Left-arrow and right arrow move up and down the whole outline, following the indents. |
 | Control-down-arrow moves you down one item, but expands the item you just left. |
 | Control-up-arrow takes you to the line above on the same level, collapsing if open. |
 | Control-U, control-D, control-L, and control-R move the currently selected line up, down, left, and right respectively. |
 | When moving an item, all its sub-items will along with it, whether they are showing (expanded) or not. |
 | When moving a line with control-L, it jumps to the next available slot at the next higher level of indentation. |
 | Comment lines are marked by a chevron character. |
 | Created with Shift-Return. |
 | Control-backslash will toggle a line between commented and non-commented. |
