Trump is Sources Go Direct
Tuesday, December 22, 2015 by Dave Winer

Trump is the first Sources Go Direct candidate.

He is certainly not the last.

Since the inception of the web, I believed that ad dollars would ultimately not decide elections, but journalists and politicos went on as if nothing had changed. As if all elections for all time would be determined by how much money you raised. Jeb Bush had that nailed, and he has now all-but lost the race. It's bad news for the TV ad business, that's for sure. It remains to be seen if it's good or bad for the country.

One thing is for sure, because of Twitter's 140-char limit, it favors people who speak in soundbites. I call them grunts and snorts. Trump is the master.

I've been writing about Sources Go Direct here on Scripting News virtually since the inception of the blog. Press people thought I was pushing an insurrection, that I was a rebel. I was the opposite of a rebel. I was warning them, in vain -- we need to get in front of this, to be sure that intelligent voices rise to the top. So we can make better products, and solve the problems we have by working together. Instead, they buried their heads in the sand and pretended they were somehow still the gatekeepers, they called themselves referees, and that normal politics would prevail. That now has finally caught up with them, and us. There are no more gatekeepers. And the intelligent voices are not being heard. Instead we're talking about schlongs and bathrooms.

Where does it go from here? It gets worse.
