apple prI read an article a few months ago in a public relations journal (I think it was the PR Quarterly) on Apple's public relations policy. The point was that Apple's PR was centered around protecting the company from inquisitive reporters rather than in getting Apple's message out.
Case in point, the NeXT deal was announced on a Friday at 4:00 on the Christmas holiday weekend. So there were no reporters around to write about the deal, no newspapers to report the deal, and everybody that bought a Macintosh for Christmas suddenly became worried about their purchase. Every good Political Science student knows that politicians announce bad news on a Friday because they hope that by Monday it will be forgotten. Why would Apple do this for something that was supposed to be good news?
Hopefully, an external PR company will mean an external rather than internal PR focus. If you read between the lines at AppleRecon and MacOSRumors, it looks like Apple might actually have a winning strategy. The problem is that they keep pissing people off in the process of doing it.
I wasn't clear in the piece. I was echoing a statement made by a woman at the conference about websites, not stating my own opinion.

Re:A Gorgeous Butte! But I don't disagree. Women and men view the world differently. Lots of books written on this subject.
I'm interested in looking into this, but I will be very careful before I offer any theories.
I don't want to limit anyone's contribution based on gender.
No offense taken by your comment, only curiosity. What do you mean.....women's web sites are different from men's? Do you think my web site looks like more female than male?
