About 40twits.com Permalink to this headline.

I wanted to know which of the links I pushed through Twitter were most interesting to people who follow me. So I wrote an app that compiled stats on them. It got better and better, then I invited some friends to try it out and now a bunch more.

How to install Permalink to this headline.

These instructions are for Scoble only. Don't pass on a link to this document.

Scoble! Drag this link into your toolbar.

Rename it once it's there. Right-click on it and choose Properties from the menu. Etc. You know how to do stuff like this. A good choice for a name: s.oy.ly -- that's probably how you'll come to think of it.

See the result here Permalink to this headline.

How it works Permalink to this headline.

The bookmarklet opens a page on redirect2.twitterland.net -- one of my servers. It grabs the referrer link and shoots it over to tr.im, with your tri.im username and password as params (also the apikey they gave me). It returns the shortened URL. I take the title of the page, add the shortened URL, and then redirect to twitter.com.

Every five minutes:

1. I check if there have been any updates to your twitter account.

2. I check back with tr.im to see how many hits your 100 more recent links have gotten and

3. Prepare the report and upload it to S3.

Note that I do not need (or want) your Twitter account info. That's between you and Twitter.
