Installing the OPML Editor on Windows Vista SP1 as a 'Fresh Install'
Warning:- Installing the OPML Editor under Windows Vista is not for the faint of heart at this stage. There are various background and security scenarios needing to be tested in relation to the fact that the OPML Editor operates as a web server on default port 5337 and the file permissions when writing to the www folder etc.
Due to the above limitations and security lockdowns in Windows Vista and 'registry virtualization' Windows Vista will NOT let the OPML Editor write to C:\Program Files\OPML\*.* any data needing to be written out to this path will be located and stored at C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\OPML\*.*
My current and 18 month fully operational install of the OPML Editor on Windows Vista x64 Ultimate is installed at C:\OPML with custom security permissions on that folder and sub-folders to avoid most of these issues.
Windows Vista 'Common Issues'
When extracting OPML.zip to C:\Program Files\OPML a Vista UAC Prompt will be displayed asking you to confirm this action.
After initial testing and starting again 'most likely' all Windows Vista install instructions will based on installing the OPML Editor at C:\OPML
Windows Vista and/or Onecare Firewalls will block the OPML Editor from updates, if you are not prompted by your firewall to allow access this will need to be performed manually.
wordpress.root - Something weird with posting the 'category' over the 3 Vista test installs, I'll come back to this when I have some form of logical idea what is happening.
podcatcher.root - As per wordpress.root different behaviour from each of the three installs.
File paths for each .root tool are as per the same as the XP notes
Windows Vista SP1 with Internet Explorer 7
Zero new issues when compared to the current XP Bug list
Windows Vista SP1 with Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1
Zero new issues in either IE8 or IE7 Emulate Modes
