Wordpress install?Just wondering, if I wanted content from this OPML editor to be fed into a Wordpress blog (one that's part of a larger network), how would one go about doing that? Also, how do I change my email address? I entered the wrong one when I registered and am wondering if comments get emailed... PS: I like the changes you've made recently! I can't wait until I have time to use this more. FerrisThe robots are catching upI've interviewed some prominent robotics and artificial intelligence specialists for a project that I've been working on for the past year, and one of the overarching messages is that robots still have a long way to go. While computers are better than the human brain at doing certain tasks, like calculating complex mathematical equations, it's the things that humans do without even being conscious of them that computers have the hardest time with. Visual tasks are one of best examples of this. A child can look at a picture of an elephant and decide it's an animal, even if the child has never seen an elephant before. But a robot would likely have problems with this kind of visual recognition tasks. Fine-tuned motor coordination tasks are another area where humans largely out-perform robots: We will instinctively put our hands up to catch a flying object, but robots are slow to act. At least they have been historically. The robot in this video seems to perform tasks that require very fine-tuned motor skills dependant on the visual system at a degree that could out-perform humans. Observe Ishikawa Komuro Lab's high-speed robot hand performing impressive acts of dexterity and skillful manipulation. For more information, see Hizook.com. Bug report 4I mentioned a bug before that doubled posts after edits. These posts are still there. Now I see a potential problem is deleting posts. I went to my homepage, and clicked the blue arrow next to the post I wanted deleted, clicked the edit button so it opened it post int he OPML editor, clicked the black arrow next to the title, and pressed deleted. All the text was subsequently deleted in the workspace. I pressed "save" expecting it to delete the post. An error window popped up sayind "Can't find a sub-table named "atts". I clicked View to see if the post wa deleted, and an error window pops up to say "Can't view the page because the post hasn't been saved yet." How do you delete posts? My "Hello World" postTest test testing this new version! I like the new install method, everything seems really slick. My First ComputerWhy I am OK with TablesOne of the other folks alpha testing the new Scripting2 software, Megan Taylor, has a post up today titled "Why I hate Tables." To test out the newest version of Scripting2, which Dave has been hard at work updating all holiday weekend, I thought I would write a response post. I don't really mind Tables. I enjoy symmetry. If you're building a website with a symmetrical appearance, tables are a pretty logical tool to use. I think it makes sense a lot of times to use them to group certain elements of a page, at least for my design purposes. But then again, I am not really a designer. I didn't learn HTML until I was 21. I "built" websites when I was younger (not 10, but maybe like 14 or so), but I always used tools on the Web to do it. There's a pretty horrid Tripod.com site cached somewhere out there that would probably make the lot of you cringe before bursting out laughing. This isn't really helping my case against tables, but the point is, I am a self-taught HTML writer. I pretty much learned on demand from working with Movable Type, and went through the W3Schools lessons in their entirety. For very simple displays, tables get the job done. That's not to say there aren't better ways to do that same job, but they don't anger me. I have seen that response quite often though, and imagine it's the same sort of response I have when I see people using Yahoo Mail or Internet Explorer. WTF Alert: The Anti-Lesbian DrugI just came accross a Newsweek article on Twitter, posted by Dr. Petra, that made my mouth drop open and remain agape for the entire duration of reading. It exposes a practice that's been going on at the Mt. Sinai medical center in NY that involves giving pregnant mothers sterroids for the purpose of preventing their daughters from being born with ambiguous genetalia, masculine features, inclinationsn to pursue masculine careers, or being lesbians. From the article (hint: click the blue arrow to access the excerpt in subtext): Seriously, WTF? iPhone4 vs HTC-EVO video creator likely to lose job at Best BuyIf you've ever been to Best Buy before, you will probably have noticed that the so-called "Geek Squad" is pretty much the most incompetent group of tech poseur n00bs ever to walk to planet. It seems this is an image Best Buy wants to uphold, as the one Geek Squad employee to exhibit some competency level beyond that of a Comcast tech-support representative, is now being forced out of his job. The offense: Making this amazing viral video illustrating the irrationality of Apple consumers: From examiner.com: >>>"Unless you live under a rock or donŐt enjoy funny things, you have probably seen the hilarious video called iPhone 4 versus HTC EVO that depicts a potential iPhone 4 customer dealing with a salesman trying to showcase the features the EVO has over the new iPhone. Best Buy however, did not find it enjoyable, and they are now trying to fire the employee who made the video, 25 year old Brian Maupin from Kansas City, Missouri. He apparently has been selling phones for the company for three and a half years but is now suspended indefinitely because of the video and the attention itŐs gotten. In his words: They felt it disparaged a brand they carried (iPhone/Apple) as well as the store itself and were fearful of stockholders & customers being turned off to Best Buy Mobile."<<< If Best Buy had any concept whatsoever of what it's present consumer base enjoys, they would have used this video to its advantage to enhance its image. Instead, it threw a public tantrum. If I was a Best Buy stockholder, I would realize this company is out-of-touch, at best, and pull out. Also, I tried to insert an image from its source on Wikimedia Commons with HTML and it didn't render in the post. Also, that bit I copied and pasted from Wikipedia apparently isn't rendering either... The etymology of Cyberian MuseThe idea for this online identity came about after reading Douglass Ruskoff's Cyberia: Life in the Trenches of Hyperspace last year. I like the idea of Cyberia as a place which one can inhabit. I spend the majority of my waking hours on the Internet, but you can't really exist in the Internet, and you merely swing through the Web. Cyberia is more of a mental place where Internet denizens like myself can say we "are." Example: "Yo, where were you for the past 10 hours? I texted you like 5 times!" "Sorry man, I was in Cyberia with my headphones on." So who am I in this Internet place? Muse: |
