Restaurant Websites Suck

By Megan Taylor on Thursday, August 05, 2010 at 9:33 AM.

This week I've been trolling NYC's restaurant websites in search of a place to hold my wedding "reception."  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

The most frustrating part of the experience was having to wait for all the Flash to load, and turning off all the auto-play music.  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

The second most frutrating thing was having to dig around for the information I wanted. In most cases, I had to email the retaurant. The responses all had PDFs of private party packages attached...so if they have this information on hand, why isn't on the website?! Permanent link to this item in the archive.

This is what a restaurant website should tell me: Permanent link to this item in the archive.

home page: where are you, what kind of food do you serve, what are your hours, news/specials Permanent link to this item in the archive.

inside pages: menus (not as PDFs!), prices (god, I hate it when they don't show the prices), EVERYTHING else I might want to know.  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I finally found a place yesterday that will work within my budget and also has a pretty decent website. Husband-elect and I went to sample fare (they make a fantastic whiskey sour, which has beomce my drink of choice lately) and talk to the owner, who is a totally cool guy. We have a winner! Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I no longer enjoy straight liquor as I did in college, but I hate "girly" drinks - too much sugar. The whiskey sour is a nice in-between. Permanent link to this item in the archive.
