Interesting back and forth between two longtime participants in the XML-DEV list discussing why RSS flourished. 

It reminded me of this story, told in April 2001, about work we were doing with Microsoft on SOAP interop.  

Doc, if you're tuned in, when we talk at the public media conference next week, let's explain that this slogan isn't just cute: Ask not what the Internet can do for you ask what you can do for the Internet.  

Some days, when my bones are tired and my head aches, it seems to me that's what's wrong with everything -- too many people trying to make the Internet work for them, not enough people giving back.
