Realization

Friday, August 31, 2007 by Dave Winer.

A picture named nationalNightmare.jpgLast spring I started watching the Sunday news talk shows regularly, enraged that the Republicans were lying about the occupation of Iraq. Then in the summer the first cracks started to appear, and then you could tell they all agreed off-camera that it was a complete quagmire.  Permalink to this paragraph

But now I can't watch the shows anymore, everyone now agrees that we need to get out of there, asap. You can even tell that Bush and Cheney get this, but they lack the courage to deal with it. And they're all willing to let more people die because they're so gutless. It's been hard to watch for the last few months.  Permalink to this paragraph

This week three prominent members of the administration either left or announced they're leaving. No minor players -- Rove, Gonzalez and Snow. What's coming up that they don't want to be around for? Permalink to this paragraph

The best comment I heard this week was something that's been obvious for a long time. There is no government in Iraq. It isn't a war, and we can't win or lose. We live in a cowardly dysfunction self-loathing country.  Permalink to this paragraph

But we make great TV commercials, maybe the best in the world.  Permalink to this paragraph
