user.websites.users.glaxoDave, Doug,I know you are both total WebHeads at this point and the work you are doing with the new release of Frontier is really excellent, but I wanted to send you another testimonial regarding Frontier's value in some other setting.
I just completed a fully automated hands-on rollout of the MS Office suite to our networked Macs with Frontier Runtime. We have over 1500 Macs here and of those all 400 in Research have now been rolled.Not only has this been the easiest software rollout of this magnitude, but it has also has the lowest impact on our support staff.
We now run Runtime on all these Macs, which is configured to check a server for new scripts (global and divisional) via an agent, imports the agents and then simply loops over a table of scripts. Importing scripts, even the script that does the main server-script-scooping, is so robust and we are now going to able to implement our automatic upgrades to our anti-virus software, update all OT users to enable DHCP, and later even install a Universal System 7.5.3!!! How totally awesome...
I will be teaching classes here shortly on how to code in Frontier so that our distributed support teams can write their own desktop scripts for their clients to run, since everyone will have Runtime. People here are getting very excited about the power and ease of use of desktop scripts and I think we will see some very cool support tools shortly. I have been getting more questions about using MacBird, but have not seen a more recent release than b17. Is there one or is that the current one to go with?
As I told Doug before ( and he liked it!!), you are both GODS!! No bitching now, Dave, about how you can't be responsible for being my GOD, it's too late :-}
Anyway, I wanted the two of you to know that thanks to you one person can now manage the software distribution and most system maintenance and asset management via Runtime for thousands of Macs. The Web is hot, but if the machines that run the browsers don't work, the Web just doesn't matter...
Love and kisses,
Michael Freedberg
