The Hole in Microsoft's Online StrategyThursday, February 23, 1995 by Dave Winer. Where is the Macintosh client for Microsoft Network? There isn't one. In other words, if you use a Macintosh, you can't be a member of the upcoming Microsoft Network online service. You might say this is a negative for Macintosh. I don't believe it is. It leaves the Macintosh online market wide open. Don't miss the irony here. As Windows is closing up, Mac is opening up. They're reversing their historic roles. Mac can be a free-for-all in online services. Windows can't. Creative energy will flow to the open platform. Creative people haven't migrated to Windows. They still use Macs. Dave |
