Back from CGI LandFriday, February 23, 1996 by Dave Winer. As they say in the election business, "The first results are in." When the final total is tallied, I expect about 1000 pages to be linked together in the 24 Hours chain. I'm learning a lot. It's an international project. That's clear. Some of the most passionate writing comes from citizens of countries where they have, or recently have, experienced limits on free speech. I learned a lot about web page design and web writing. My work has already been influenced by the participants. You can learn from this too! Judge for yourself how powerful the Internet is as a multiple-channel broadcast system. This effort came together in less than two weeks! You saw it happen here on DaveNet. Web Energy rules! I plan to share what I learn; I already know this much -- it was totally worth the effort! Thanks to everyone who participated, especially the people at "America OnLine", "World Wide Power & Light", the media people at Apple Computer and to "HotWired" for providing support and web space. And a special thanks to Bill Gates for speaking first. Coooool! Dave Winer PS: They're doing a t-shirt. Of course. Watch the 24 Hours of Democracy site! PPS: I highly recommend the "Ten Random Essays" CGI-generated page. Be sure you have enough time. It's addictive! |
