Jimmy Stewart died today.

From Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, 1939: "You all think I'm licked. Well, I'm not licked, and I'm going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause even if this room gets filled with lies like these, and the Taylors and all their armies come marching into this place."

Jimmy Stewart played the dreamy American idealist. He stood up and fought and won. He made love to Katherine Hepburn and Donna Reed. Some of the best movie lines ever! They really get to you.

I don't know what his politics were, Republican or Democrat, but he said something in his movies, his lines were simple, and very positive. He was not a subtle character like Bogart, or glamorous like Cary Grant. He was easy to follow. At heart he was an American artist. An example, a role model, a man who made me proud to be from this country.
