New GlassesTuesday, December 23, 1997 by Dave Winer. I got new glasses today! I remember when I got my first pair of glasses at age eight or so. I was happy to get them. I remember how sharp things looked. I could read street signs. Wow. It was a revelation. Well, my eyes changed again. I could read easily during the day, but at night, only if the type was big or the light was very bright. My new glasses have a very advanced user interface. The top part is for distance viewing, the bottom for reading, the middle for intermediate distances. To the left and right are blurry areas, they say to train my eyes to stay in the middle. My eyes have never had to work so hard just to see. But everything is so sharp! I see my carpets need cleaning. I also see the sky is so blue! Much bluer than I remember. My hearing feels sharper too. I guess it's always a good day to get new glasses. I'll let you know what I see! Dave |
