Software Choices SurveySaturday, April 4, 1998 by Dave Winer. Here's another survey for Scripting News and DaveNet readers. With all the talk about free software, I was wondering what you consider the most important factor in deciding to use a software product. I put a list of reasons together off the top of my head. Low price, high price, free source code available, runs on a specific operating system/platform, better performance relative to other similar products, features you can't get anywhere else, quality of support, size of the company selling the product, lots of other people use the product successfully, or it comes from a company or individual who you want to support. I've put it up as an interactive survey at: http://betty.userland.com/testing/softwareSurvey/default.wsf If you have a couple of minutes, please let me know which factor influences you the most. Thanks! Dave Winer |
