InfoWorld on SOAPSunday, June 14, 1998 by Dave Winer. First, here's a pointer to a story in this week's InfoWorld: http://www.infoworld.com/cgi-bin/displayStory.pl?980710.whsoap.htm The reason this story got such star treatment, it's on page one in today's print edition, is that the story involves Microsoft, and because the technology is potentially far-reaching and precedent-setting. The story identifies my company, UserLand, as working with Microsoft and Developmentor to define a new protocol for XML-RPC. In fact, we are working with other companies on formats for remote procedure calls in XML. I've been very public about that. So far, none of the companies we're working with have said publicly that their format is compatible with ours. It's up to them to decide when and how (or if!) to announce it. It would be bad industry politics for me to speak on behalf of any other company. I'm doing a lot more writing about XML-RPC this week, but I wanted to get this message out while the article is still fresh. Dave Winer |
