In rebuttal to Glenn DavisFriday, March 29, 2002 by Dave Winer. A brief pieceYesterday the NY Times ran a story that said the fun of the Web is over. They quoted Glenn Davis, who ran Cool Site of the Day in the early years of the boom. I knew Glenn then and we shared a lot of pointers in those days, and it's good to see he's still out there, the agent provocateur that he always was and probably always will be. Davis says that the gee-whiz hello-world days of the Web are over. It's true it was fun (for a few minutes) to watch a fish tank on a webcam. But that was not the promise or purpose of the Web. Maybe he thought that's what it was. If so, he missed the point. It's about publishing without middlemen. Dave Winer |
