blue ribbon A Note for NEWS.COM Readers

Good morning!

I've been getting lots of mail from people who read my piece on www.news.com. That story was written on Saturday morning. A lot has happened since then.

My most recent piece, Depend on Developers, has a significantly different, more current viewpoint, based on new information. Please read this piece before sending me email. Thanks!

UserLand is cross-platform

I would like everyone to know that UserLand Software is a cross-platform developer. We are currently shipping Frontier 4.1 on the Mac only. 4.2 is in the works, it will also be Mac only. Frontier 5.0 will be available for both Macintosh and Windows. We are looking into creating a version of Frontier for NextStep and other platforms.

Our move to being cross-platform is not new, it is not in response to the events of the last few days. We began the development work during the summer of 1996. It continues, with great results. No estimated shipdate for 5.0 at this time. Please watch the News & Updates page.

We are making an investment by going cross-platform. In view of the events of the last few days, that has proven to be a smart investment.

It's a great time to learn, use, and build on Frontier.

Thanks!

Dave Winer, President
UserLand Software
