blue ribbon MacWEEK/Seybold/DaveNet Survey

Welcome to the second survey of platform choices for Macintosh developers. The first survey was conducted on January 2 and 3.

The second survey will be conducted on January 14. The server will be open from 12:01AM to 11:59 PM Pacific on the 14th. It's OK to point to this page in advance of the survey. This is the page that people will vote from. Thanks! DW

We're conducting this survey in conjunction with MacWEEK and Seybold Seminars.

The purpose of the survey is to learn more about the current direction of the Macintosh development community. A secondary goal is to understand how the direction changed during the week of January 6, when Apple communicated its direction to developers.

You can monitor the survey in real-time on the Developer Survey Results page.

Changes since the last survey

We're using cookies as the spam-elimination technique instead of allowing only a single vote from each IP address. People who access the net from behind firewalls can participate.

We welcome Next developers to participate in the second survey.

The Java Virtual Machine is now available as a platform choice. This is distinct from Java the programming language, which can be used to create CGI applications or code that runs inside of a web browser. If you indicate that you plan to, or are currently developing for the Java VM, you are working on apps that are accessed thru the native operating system. Thanks!

Mac or Next Developers only

Only respond to this survey only if you are actively developing software for the Macintosh or Next platforms.

We want to know how you feel right now, at this moment. Do you know what platforms you'll be developing software for in the future? Base your responses only on what you know right now. You may change your mind later as more facts become available.

This isn't a corporate survey. If you work for a company that develops software for the Mac, or if you develop Mac software in your spare time, please fill out the form.

The responses are accumulated into a summary, so you aren't making a public announcement. You may include the URL of a web page that describes your products, but unless you state your future platform preferences on your site, no one will know how you voted.

Please be honest about your true at-this-moment platform intentions.

Question 1. Which platforms do you currently develop software for?
Macintosh Windows (3.1, 95 or NT)
NextStep Other Unix
Be OS Java VM

Click on the Submit button when you're finished entering choices in the form.

The Submit button will be activated
