CNN's View-From-Somewhere Anchor
By Dave Winer on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 9:59 AM.
A picture named brooke.jpgI happened to watch Brooke Baldwin on CNN yesterday, and thought about Jay Rosen and his View From Nowhere the whole time.  permalink
Maybe Ms Baldwin isn't always like this, but yesterday, she was all about telling you where she is from, and what a great place that is. She is delightful. Really sweet, smart, and a great interviewer. permalink
She asked one of her subjects "What do you think about that?" in exactly those words. Stunned. Most interviewers put a lot of indirection in there, asking what does the average American think about that. The answer is always what the person thinks, so why not ask it that way. permalink
When the interviewer does View From Somewhere well, the interviewee's view comes out clearly too. (BTW, look at how the word "interview" has the word "view" in it.) permalink
I admit to being smitten. She's an exceptional TV news anchor, especially on a network that's otherwise mostly devoid of life. Do their anchors have a pulse? I imagine they wouldn't be willing to answer that question, either. :-)  permalink
PS: I've also recently become a fan of Alex Wagner on MSNBC.  permalink
