Many years ago, I was riding in a cab from Montego Bay to visit my uncle who lived in Negril.
The driver pointed out a development of new cottages, about 20 or so. He said they were all new, with modern fixtures, plumbing, electricity, well-built, designed to survive a hurricane. But no one wanted to live in them.
Of course I asked why. He said they were built by the Cubans, as part of a development deal with the Jamaican government. He said the houses were great, but they didn't have back doors.
I thought about it and then realized why they were that way, and why that was a problem.
