Dr Lorianne DiSabato was one of four callers on the hour-long show we did yesterday on NHPR. She sent me an email this morning that I thought people should read. The mainstream media focuses on a very small portion of the blogging world, you can hear it in their words. Dr DiSabato tells the story of a blog in Keene, NH, that deliberately has a small focus.
Hi, Dave--how are you? I found your blog via the New Hampshire Public Radio website. I'm "Lori from Keene," the woman who called the show to talk about place-based blogging.
Thanks for the insights & perspectives you shared on the show. Every time I've heard the mainstream media talk about blogs & blogging, they focus on the political and journalistic sites, which of course are an important part of the blogging scene. But, they're only one part of the blogosphere while the "rest of us" operate under the mainstream radar, content to be the local "roots" in this "grassroots" medium.
Given this media bias (or blindness!), I appreciated the chance to talk a bit about a different sort of blogging that continues to go on whether the mainstream media thinks there's any "news" happening in our backyards. So, thanks for contributing your part to an interesting conversation, and I hope you're doing well!
Her blog is Hoarded Ordinaries.
