IRAQ-US-DEFENCE

US General David Petraeus (C), head of the Multi-National Forces-Iraq, and Iraq's National Security Advisor Muwaffaq al-Rubaie (R) cut the ribbon decorating a Humvee to mark the transfer of the 1,000th US-refurbished Humvee vehicle to Iraqi security forces in Taji, 30 kms north of Baghdad, on June 26, 2008. Iraqi security forces completed the delivery of the first 1,000 up-armoured High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV), pronounced 'Humvee', previously used by the US military, as part of a program that began in March 2008. Iraqi security forces are expected to receive 8,500 Humvees through this program by late 2009. AFP PHOTO/POOL/ALI AL-SAADI
