US-CRIME-PRISON-PROBE

This image received on July 1, 2008 courtesy of the Prince George's County Department of Corrections, Upper Marlboro, Maryland shows inmate Ronnie White. US authorities were investigating on July1, 2008 the death in prison of a 19-year-old inmate two days after he was charged with killing a policeman. Ronnie White, 19, of Maryland, was charged with the first-degree murder of corporal Richard Findley on June 27,2008. On June 29 authorities found him strangled in his jail cell in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. "The (state medical examiner's) report shows that Mr. White did not die of natural causes, and his death is being ruled preliminarily a homicide," said Prince George's County executive Jack Johnson. "Only the correctional officers in the (maximum security) unit where he was housed had access to him from the time he was put in the cell until the time of his death," Johnson added.
