BTW, due to a glitch in my CMS, the pointers to a piece about a paradox didn't make it into the index.
The correct answer is "south." The trick is that after entering an elevator, you turn around 180 degrees. Until I wrote down the steps manually I didn't realize where the trick was. It's observable that the view out of the window is to the south.
