Last night I flipped the switch and deployed the new version of Scripting News. I said in the inaugural post that on Sunday morning I'd start to make a list of all the things that were broken. It's a good thing I put that disclaimer in there, because there's lots of stuff that needs attention.
I started this post so there would be a place for people to comment on problems, and to suggest solutions. There are lots of people who know more CSS and JavaScript than I do. Your help is much appreciated.
Problems
When you click on a permalink (example), the top of the item is scrolled off the top of the screen. This problem is caused, clearly, by the fixed navbar.
The social media links that are supposed to appear in the right corner of the navbar are not visible. I tried playing around with everything to figure out what the problem is.
When you use a permalink to go to a headline that has no subs, it erroneously puts a down-pointing wedge adjacent to the item, on the wrong (right) side of it. Example.
It looks terrible on my tablet. Looks great on phone and desktop.
In the preliminary docs I refer to the type as noteblog, but in the code it's called a stream. Noteblog is a better term. But the software wants me to call them streams.
The Stories menu is all kablooey on the noteblog site. This is because everything is a story, which is not cool.
