Last week a cover story on Newsweek about gender-based discrimination in Silicon Valley. The articles linked into the topic on Techmeme mostly had the same opinion:
The image on the cover is bad.
It helps perpetuate sexism in the tech industry.
Silicon Valley is a void of diversity in many ways, not just in gender.
A rousing chorus of "everything's great as long as we're getting richer" rah-rahism. It's a lot like bubbles of the past. Even if there are women in tech, it's still a monoculture, one business model iterated over a matrix of attributes. Uber for diapers. Cloud-based funeral homes. All with the same approach to business.
At some point, eventually, we have to look outside of Silicon Valley for tech leadership.
