FTP PublishingPlanning your access to foldersFolders created in the Content folder will be automatically reflected as tables in your Frontier web site table and as folders in the actual web site. It's up to the sysop to decide who has FTP access to what folders in the Content folder. Create these folders as necessary. Different access permissions can also be granted for the Templates and Images folders. Users and GroupsNetPresenz uses the Mac OS built-in filesharing for defining access permissions. If you're familiar with filesharing and Users & Groups, then this should be a piece of cake. The easiest way to start is to define a group in your Users & Groups control panel that will contain all your users. You might want to call this group something sensible, such as "Publish Group." Then create a separate user with a password for each of your users. Add each user to the "Publish Group." Set up sharing for the Uploads FolderSelect the Uploads folder in the Finder and choose "Sharing..." from the "File" menu.Click the "Share this item and its contents" checkbox. The Owner should be the owner of this computer. The Owner can See Folders, See Files, and Make Changes. The User/Group should be the "Publish Group." The Publish Group can See Folders and See Files, but cannot make changes. "Everyone" cannot See Folders, See Files, or Make Changes. To leave those items checked is potentially to open a security hole. Your mix of sharing permissions will be different than everybody else's mix. Deciding who has access to what is entirely up to you. Set Up NetPresenzRun the "NetPresenz SetUp" application.Under FTP Setup, set File Access permissions for Owner, Users, and Guests. The Owner should have full access and be enabled. Users should also have full access and be enabled. Their full access will be limited by your file sharing setup. Guests should not have any access at all and should not be enabled. This is very important! Only enable guests if you're also running an anonymous FTP server on your machine and you know what you're doing. If in doubt, don't enable guest access. Make sure Gopher and WWW servers are not enabled, unless NetPresenz is also your web server. Next: CGI Publishing This page was built on a Macintosh running Frontier.
